PROFILE OF THE 2024 RECIPIENT

Sylvie St-Pierre arrived in Prince George in 1987 as a teacher in a French immersion school. Since her arrival, Sylvie has quickly established herself as a passionate teacher dedicated to children's education. She has also left her mark on the community through her exceptional volunteer involvement, becoming an active member of the Cercle des canadiens français de Prince George (CCFPG).

Her investment in the cultural and sports sectors is particularly noteworthy. Well-known in the Prince George sports community, Sylvie has multiplied her initiatives to extend a warm welcome to all residents of her adopted city. She has been at the heart of the organization of numerous community events, such as meals for St. John's Day celebrations, the corn roast and the annual sugar shack festivities. She also took charge of preparing gifts for the children at the Christmas festivities and was in charge of purchasing for these various festivities.

In addition to these contributions, Sylvie volunteered at the 2015 Francophone Winter Games and the 2022 British Columbia Summer Games. For her ongoing contribution, she and her husband Steve were honoured as life members of the Cercle des canadiens français.

Today, although she is well into her fifties, her commitment remains intact. Sylvie remains actively involved in Francophone community activities and seniors' initiatives, offering various workshops and continuing her active role in preparing community events. She also devotes herself to distributing books from the municipal library to residences for the elderly and handicapped for those unable to get around.

Carrefour 50+ is proud to award the InspirAction 2023 prize to Sylvie St-Pierre, in recognition of her unwavering dedication to her community. She embodies the spirit of this award through her ongoing commitment to enriching the cultural, sporting and social life of Prince George.

PROFILE OF THE 2023 RECIPIENT

Sonia Labbé is an inspiring and dedicated figure in Maillardville, demonstrating unwavering support for the francophone community, especially seniors. We are delighted to announce that she is the recipient of Le Carrefour 50+'s first InspirAction award, in recognition of her exceptional dedication to our 50+ community.
Having arrived in British Columbia nearly 15 years ago, her enthusiasm and energy have remained unwavering. Her generosity proved particularly invaluable during the Covid-19 pandemic, when she provided support by making phone calls, shopping, transporting people and distributing small Christmas gifts to seniors deprived of social activities.
Sonia has distinguished herself by her active participation in various cultural and community activities. She not only participated, but also encouraged seniors to get involved, as volunteers, in the preparation of traditional cuisine at the Festival du Bois. Her promise of fun resonated with many of the festival's supporters.
Her dedication also extends to her personal life. Helping her parents who were losing their independence, she found ways to involve them in her volunteer activities, giving them a sense of purpose and pride in their lives.
Sonia Labbé is an exceptional recipient who represents the spirit of solidarity and dedication to the 50+, bringing great credit to the Maillardville community.
